  • We have acquired over 500,000 wayleaves across Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Private Landlords in London to support that growth.
  • We have deployed our 100% full fibre network to over 200,000 premises to deliver the growth, which is rapidly moving towards 1 million in 2023.

Job Purpose:


We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable and bright candidates with a network engineering background to help us to build our network faster and continue our dedication to making our customers happy. The critical nature of the infrastructure will require you to work both quickly and carefully, and be available to provide 24-hours support as part of a team rota. You will need to thrive in a varied and sometimes chaotic environment, able to provide support to customer service teams, configure and install network equipment, design new services, contribute to network architecture.


You will join a team of extremely dedicated engineers and will quickly develop your personal and technical skills in line with the current trends in the networking industry – learning automation, programming, cloud and furthering your existing networking skills. You will be the type of person that loves and understands concepts of networking technologies, and that can take those concepts and build standardised designs for us to use across the network. You will also have good passive optical fibre experience. Experience of doing all of this in a FTTH / PON network will be of real interest. You will have a thorough understanding of IP networking. You will be someone who is comfortable in configuring and managing routers, switches, OLTs and involved in various network activities including upgrades, new implementations, and migrations.

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Liaise with the support teams and support customer services in troubleshooting customer issues and ensure network SLAs are always upheld
  • Design, test, implement and operate an end-to-end Internet infrastructure (CPE, Access, Core, Internet and Services)
  • Proactively monitor network incidents and report the status and performance of the core network
  • To carry out network impacting changes by following change Management process to ensure proposed changes do not compromise network availability
  • Handling escalation of faults reported by from Tier 2 and drive to resolution
  • Be pro-active, and able to manage your own workload without much oversight from management.
  • Maximise network performance, capacity management for network optimisation
  • Network engineering – configuration of OLTs/routers etc.
  • Create troubleshooting document for network and customer services and to allow Tier 1 and Tier 2 to perform initial troubleshooting
  • Swiftly diagnose and resolve faults on network equipment, and have a thorough understanding of the underlying physical network design and operation.
  • Develop new, and support existing, network systems running in virtual and cloud environments.
  • Utilise open-source systems and tools to improve network capabilities.
  • Part of a 24/7 on call team in a rota.


The experience we’re looking for you to bring:

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • >6 years experience working as a network engineer and experience working with a service provider network
  • CCNP/JNCIP/JNCIS, or relevant experience.
  • Experience creating standardised designs and enforcing these in use across a network.
  • Experience in a similar sized company in an environment of exponential growth
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of application, transport and other protocols (BGP,ISIS, OSPF,MPLS)
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred.)
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms (proxmox and/or KVM preferred)
  • Three or more years of professional experience in a network-heavy environment
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Significant projects in one scripting languages (Python preferred) and one complied language (C, C++, Java, Go)
  • Development of software that interacts with network or similar devices.
  • Development of REST APIs using a web framework (Flask preferred)
  • Source management using GitHub
  • Continuous integration/deployment tools (preferably Jenkins)
  • Automated system or device provisioning and orchestration using Ansible or Salt
  • Development of provisioning playbooks using a templating system (Jinja2)
  • Exposure to at least one network configuration protocol (NETCONF, REST-CONF, YANG/OpenConfig)
